The 2027 Ram 2500 arrives with several meaningful upgrades aimed at drivers who use their heavy-duty truck for towing, hauling, off-roading and demanding worksites. Rather than receiving a complete redesign, the 2027 Ram 2500 builds on the recently updated Heavy Duty platform with new capability packages, expanded equipment choices and one especially important addition to the Power Wagon lineup.
The biggest news is the 2027 Ram 2500 Power Wagon with an available 6.7L Cummins High-Output Turbo Diesel I6. This is the first time Ram has offered its legendary Power Wagon with Cummins diesel power. The engine produces 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque, combining the Power Wagon’s serious off-road hardware with substantially more low-end pulling power. Canadian reports indicate the diesel Power Wagon can tow approximately 20,000 lb when properly equipped.
For Canadians who prioritize payload, another important addition is the new Payload Upgrade Package offered on many Ram 2500 models equipped with the 6.4L HEMI V8. The package uses heavier-duty components, including a Ram 3500-derived frame, leaf-spring rear suspension and anti-spin rear differential. Properly configured, a 2027 Ram 2500 can carry up to 4,580 lb (2,077 kg) of maximum gas payload.
Ram has also made it easier to customize a 2500 without purchasing larger equipment groups. The anti-spin rear differential can now be ordered separately on Tradesman models, while the WARN winch becomes a standalone option on HEMI-powered Rebel and Power Wagon models. Sport Appearance and Night Edition packages are also being offered with a wider selection of equipment groups, while Laramie models receive expanded RamBox availability.
Technology remains a major strength. Available equipment includes a 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, 10.25-inch passenger display, digital instrument cluster, digital rearview mirror with Tow Mode, Trailer Reverse Steering Control and trailer monitoring technology.
For 2027, the Ram 2500 is less about starting over and more about giving Canadian truck owners additional ways to build exactly the heavy-duty pickup they need. Whether that means greater payload capacity, Cummins-powered off-road capability or better towing technology, the new model year adds some genuinely useful choices.
